The neighbouring communities of Mhlumeni in Swaziland and Goba in Mozambique are collaborating on a cross- border trail that forms the Northern anchor point of the Lubombo Eco Trail.
The Goba community 60 km west of Maputo allocated 9 000hactares as conservation space. The area features mountain streams and waterfalls surrounded by rugged hills and savanna woodland with large Marula trees. A local community environmental Organisation, Ntava Yedzu (Our Mountain’) manages the Goba Tourism initiative.
Visitors can overnight at the Goba campsite and hike up to the official Goba/Mhlumeni Border crossing. The mildly strenuous+_12km trail takes hikers over the Lubombo providing stunning 360degree views with the Indian Ocean breeze at your back before entering Swaziland. A border lunchbreak with meals prepared by the local ladies and a beer from the local store energise hikers for the rest of the gently sloping trail. Mhlumeni community camp welcomes weary hikers with amazing sunset views, traditional dancers and a hearty home cooked meal.
