In a development that will see even more positive exposure for Eswatini’s tourism, a recent blog on the country by a leading Belgian travel writer and photographer, Jonathan Ramael, has been nominated for a national award!
Fans of the blog can help Jonathan achieve more success (and so give an even greater boost to Eswatini) as his Eswatini article has also resulted in him being nominated for the Audience Choice Award. Jonathan made his third visit to the Kingdom of Eswatini in August/September last year. Invited and hosted by the Eswatini Tourism Authority to help update their image library, he did not disappoint, capturing numerous stunning images of experiences and attractions across the country. In addition, Jonathan writes the highly amusing and very irreverent travel blog ‘Trot Op!’ which he confidently promotes as ‘The Least Informative Travel Blog in the Low Countries’. It was his article based on his visit to Eswatini that earned him the recent nomination in the Belgian Travel Blog Awards.
The article ‘A road trip through Eswatini: discover the 8 greatest highlights of a trip to Swaziland’ on his popular Trot Op! blog is a comprehensive and humorous account of Jonathan’s travels around the Kingdom in 2022. During that visit, he was lucky enough to experience two of the events that Eswatini is famed for – the traditional Umhlanga Reed Dance Festival that sees tens of thousands of emaSwati dancing with gusto in full traditional regalia, and the decidedly more modern Swazi Rally for motorbike enthusiasts. Jonathan managed to explore much of the country and was once again impressed by Eswatini’s remarkable variety, stating “it’s small, but with a myriad of experiences to offer. You can hike through beautiful landscapes, enjoy exciting cultural events and even book a big-five safari.” He also concluded that “the country is worth much more than spending a weekend in ……. Eswatini is a full-fledged destination offering everything that makes a trip to Africa a unique experience, in pocket size.”
The Belgian Travel Blog Awards is the biggest event for Belgian travel influencers, having been running since 2018. Each year, the best Belgian travel bloggers and social influencers are rewarded for the travel content they produce.
