Escape. Explore. Experience… Bulembu Country Lodge

Bulembu Country Lodge beckons travellers seeking a unique blend of comfort, adventure, and historical exploration. Bulembu is a small town located in north-western Hhohho of Eswatini, twenty kilometres west of Piggs Peak. More than just a place to stay, Bulembu is an experience, transporting guests to a bygone era while offering modern amenities and breathtaking scenery. Bulembu’s rich history shapes its very essence. Originally established in 1941 as a haven for a utopian community by asbestos mining company Turner & Newall, the town thrived for decades. However, with the decline of the asbestos industry in the late 20th century, Bulembu fell silent.

In the early 21st century, a remarkable turn of events unfolded. A consortium purchased the town with the vision of transforming it into a sustainable eco-tourism destination. Today, Bulembu Country Lodge stands as a testament to this ongoing revitalisation.

Echoes of the past

Traces of Bulembu’s mining past are woven into the fabric of the lodge. Renovated miners’ cottages now serve as charming guest rooms, their brick exteriors and peaked roofs echoing a bygone era. The historic Bulembu Club, once a social hub for miners, has been meticulously restored and now offers guests a place to unwind and socialize, perhaps over a drink or a meal prepared with fresh, local ingredients. Established in 2006, this hidden gem offers a unique blend of relaxation, adventure, and cultural immersion, making it the perfect destination for your next getaway.
