Mbuluzi Game Reserve, located in the north east corner of Eswatini, has announced the date for 5th annual Eswatini birding spectacular.
Taking place on Saturday 28 January 2023, the picturesque landscape across the private reserve will play host as avid birders venture out across the country to discover the unique and impressive collection of birdlife on offer within the country’s borders.
The competition-style event will follow these set rules:
- Birds to be recorded from 00h00 28th January until 23h59 28th January (All of Saturday);
- All birding to happen within Eswatini’s borders;
- Teams not restricted to a certain size, but 3-4 is ideal. Only one vehicle at a time per team;
- Majority of team to confirm the sighting.
There will be an informal meeting around the braai in Mbuluzi on the Friday night, and although this is not compulsory, it gives people an opportunity to meet their fellow participants and organisers.
To close the event, there will be breakfast at Simunye Country Club on Sunday morning and prize giving will take place.
Mbuluzi hope to showcase the amazing variety that Eswatini has to offer when it comes to habitats and birdlife. From Blue Swallows in the Grassland to Narina Trogons in the Forest to Pink Throated Twinspots in the Lowveld and many in between.
Mbuluzi Game Reserve is about 5 hours from Johannesburg and has various accommodation options from camping to lodges.
Most parts of Eswatini are within a 2-hour drive from Mbuluzi and so one can plan various routes to brilliant birding spots from here.
