Mountain Bike Races
Eswatini has many annual mountain biking events throughout the year. Mostly these are single stage events such as Imvelo Classic and Ngwenya Glass Mountain Bike Challenge. Inyatsi Swazi Frontier is Eswatini’s only multi-stage mountain bike event.
Imvelo Classic takes place every June in Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary, organised by Big Game Parks. It offers a choice of different race distances, from the shortest 12km Hoglets race to the longest Classic race of 64km. Find out more here.
Inyatsi Swazi Frontier mountain bike stage race takes place every October (although the 2020 event has been postponed to July 2021). It takes place in the north-west corner of Eswatini. The total race distance is 175km (approximately 60km each day). Entries are open to Solo riders or teams of 2 riders who compete in the men’s, mixed or ladies categories. The 3 day race follows an unmarked route using GPS navigation devices. Race entries include all meals and accommodation plus full logistical support. Find out more here.
The Ngwenya Glass Mountain Bike Challenge, held annually in July in the area around the Malolotja Nature Reserve, near the Ngwenya Glass Factory offers a choice of 3 different race distances including the 70km Marathon, 40km Classic and 27km Family Ride. Find out more here.
The annual Swazi Reserves MTB gives an opportunity each September to explore two of the country’s lowveld reserves – Mbuluzi and Mlawula, with routes from 10km to 70km. Find out more here.
